Yeah they helped. Some are rubbish, such as John Vorhaus' Killer Poker Online, but others such as Matthew Hilger's Internet Poker book, and Ed Miller's Small Stakes Hold'em are very good, especially for online.
You need the basics, and the more books you read, the more you pick up, but at the end of the day, if you don't have some feel for the game you'll never get there.
Books can certainly give you food for thought. I am a member of various online coaching sites, and find the videos are an excellent aid to learning. Watching a Pro in action, and listening to his commentary is far more educational than any book. One of the worst books I've ever read is by Sam Farha on PLO.
I'm going to start a SSNL Group Course with Greg at Leggopoker, so I'll let you know how it goes.
Okay, better late than never.
I had 10 group lessons with Greg Brooks at Leggopoker, back in March, which were challenging and very rewarding. He gave me new insights in to the game. The coaching paid for itself within the first month. Since March, I've only had one losing month, which was mainly due to me tilting over suckouts etc.
Many topics were covered, and the most interesting one was advanced hand reading skills. The development of this skill is paramount to future success. Training videos are an excellent tool for learning, but can never replace a coach.
Greg Brooks was originally coached by Krantz, a co-owner of Deucescracked. Krantz has a very good DVD out called, "Short-Handed NO-LIMIT HOLD'EM. Invest in your poker education and it will pay dividends.
